Behind the hand: installation, housing estate car park, Elephant and Castle, London (Autumn 2019) - Chris Moyse and K. Yoland. Original image: police car park, Little Italy, New York City, 1973, Chris Moyse.

Behind the hand is an installation consisting of one single image. Whilst the image references another car park site, the hand simultaneously talks to the anonymity of power in the history of the housing estate demolition in the immediate area of Elephant & Castle. Starting with an image shot in New York City in the 1970's by the reportage photographer, Chris Moyse, Yoland crops and zooms into the scene at various magnitudes, sometimes shifting the focus onto various features or revealing details otherwise easily ignored. The collaboration between Moyse and Yoland references Michelangelo Antonioni's 1966 film, Blow-Up, in which the main protagonist discovers he has photographed a crime.
